Timeline for all J Church Related Projects

This timeline includes all projects related to the J Church including capital and service improvement projects. For additional information about a specific project, please see the project webpage. 

2019 through 2021 

Church and Market Streets Intersection Improvements

• Early outreach regarding pandemic-related changes to the Muni stop and service near the intersection. 

Late 2022

San Jose Avenue Improvements 

• Targeted outreach to key community groups

Spring 2023 

Church and Market Street Intersection Improvements 

• Targeted outreach to merchants

San Jose Avenue Improvements 

• Continued outreach to key community groups

Summer 2023 

Church and Market Street Intersection Improvements 

• SFMTA works with Public Works on design of plaza. Date of completion of the permanent design of plaza to be determined.

• SFMTA Board action on southbound right turn restriction (except Muni) from Market Street to Church Street.
  
  • Please note commercial vehicles and taxis will still be able to access southbound Church Street but must do so from Church Street north of Market Street.

Church Street, Noe Valley

• Outreach to key community-based organizations and the community

• Proposal for approval of community-informed design to SFMTA Board

Fall 2023

Service improvements by adding historic street cars from Church/Duboce to Balboa Park

• Anticipated to add 15-minute service with combined 7.5-minute frequency on the surface of the J Church
• Implementation dependent on hiring and training operators
