Neighborhoods Affected

Starting late February, new safety improvements are coming to Page Street between Webster and Octavia streets using temporary materials such as paint, posts, and signs. During construction, look out for the new parking and circulation changes, temporary signs, and field operations staff. Please exercise care when using the street.

Key changes for people who DRIVE and PARK:

  • NO FREEWAY ACCESS FROM PAGE STREET
    • Drivers heading east on Page must turn left or right at Webster.
    • Drivers heading west on Page must turn right at Octavia.
    • To access the freeway, it is best to stay on arterial routes – using Oak St to Octavia Blvd or Gough St to 13th St.
  • One-way westbound on Page Street between Octavia and Laguna streets
    • Drivers may access westbound Page by making a right turn off southbound Octavia
  • Peak period parking restrictions on Haight Street
    • Parking is restricted on the south side of Haight Street between Webster and Buchanan streets between 7-10am and 3-6pm, Monday through Friday.
    • During the morning and evening peak commute hours (7-10am, 3-6pm; Mon-Fri), parking on the south side will become a travel lane to benefit Muni; private vehicles are only permitted to turn right from this peak hour lane
  • Expansion of Residential Permit Parking

We know that neighborhood parking is important. To ease the burden of parking loss during the pilot, we worked with our Curb Management team on changes to Residential Permit Parking to expand the blocks on which Area ‘S’ permit holders can park. These expanded blocks include:

    • The east side of Webster Street between Fell and Page streets
      • Available to both Area ‘S’ and ‘Q’ permit holders
    • The east side of Webster Street between Page and Haight streets
    • The north side of Haight Street between Webster and Buchanan streets The west side of Buchanan Street between Page and Haight streets

These changes will follow the implementation of bikeway improvements. To learn more about the Residential Permit Parking program, including how to purchase a permit, visit SFMTA.com/RPP.

Our Curb Management team is also in the early stages of a comprehensive study of parking and loading in the Hayes Valley neighborhood. Find out more about the Hayes Valley Parking & Curb Management Plan by visiting their website.

Key changes for people who BIKE:

  • Reduced vehicle traffic on Page Street east of Webster
  • Physically protected downhill bikeway between Laguna and Octavia streets
  • New uphill bike lane between Octavia and Webster streets

Key changes for people who WALK:

  • Reduced vehicle traffic on Page Street east of Webster, including in the John Muir Elementary school zone
  • Upgraded or refreshed high-visibility continental crosswalks at various intersections around the project area
  • Other safety improvements associated with the Page Street Neighborway such as sidewalk extensions, rain gardens, and a raised intersection are in design.

Updates for people who take TRANSIT:

  • The ability for Muni buses to more easily get past traffic and into the existing transit lane on Haight Street
  • Previously approved Muni Forward signal changes are underway.

Next steps

These changes will remain in place for 12 months to allow for data collection, outreach, and evaluation. Project staff are expected to provide an update to the SFMTA Board approximately four months following full implementation of pilot improvements.
