Muni Service Equity Strategy, SFMTA Board to Review 2018 Report and Recommendations (March 20)

On March 20, the 2018 Muni Service Equity Strategy will be presented to the SFMTA Board of Directors before the development of the fiscal years 2019 and 2020 capital and operating budget.

Over the past few months, the SFMTA collected feedback from thousands of Muni customers about Muni service performance improvements they'd like prioritzed (such as reducing gaps in service, reducing travel time and crowding, and others). Based on what was heard, SFMTA staff developed the following preliminary recommendations for Muni improvements:

Bayview and Visitacion Valley

Chinatown

Excelsior-Outer Mission

Inner Mission

Oceanview-Ingleside

South of Market-Tenderloin

Western Addition

These preliminary recommendations were recently presented at community meetings and events within the Equity Strategy Neighborhoods for feedback.

The SFMTA Board adopted the Muni Service Equity Policy in 2014. The Muni Service Equity Strategy implements this policy and focuses on improving routes in San Francisco neighborhoods that rely heavily on transit service. The neighborhoods were selected based on the percentage of households with low incomes, private vehicle ownership and race and ethnicity demographics. The Strategy was developed jointly with transportation equity and affordable housing advocates, who continue to advise the SFMTA.
