Pilot implementation complete

Implementation of the pilot safety improvements on Page and Haight streets is now complete. We appreciate your patience during construction and thank you for yielding space to our field operations staff (including adhering to temporary parking restrictions necessary for their safety).

The turn restrictions at the Webster Street and Laguna Street intersections, re-striping of bikeways along Page Street, and addition of a peak hour ‘right-turn except Muni’ lane on Haight Street were completed the week of March 2-6. The turn restrictions for westbound Page Street at Octavia Boulevard are in place as of Thursday, March 12 in the afternoon.

Next steps

For the first few weeks, we plan to have Parking Control Officers at certain intersections to help folks navigate the traffic circulation changes. We are giving particular attention to the intersection of Webster Street and Page Street to support the safety of John Muir Elementary students.

The evaluation plan provides for a ‘settling in’ period to allow people to adjust to the changes, with the first ‘post’ data collection scheduled for early May. We are keeping a close eye on changes in commuting behavior in response to COVID-19, and may adjust the evaluation schedule accordingly.

These changes will remain in place for 12 months through mid-March 2021 to allow for data collection and outreach. Project staff will provide a mid-pilot update to the SFMTA Board in summer 2020.
