Buena Vista Elementary School Safe Routes to School Project

Project Overview

Caltrans awarded the Buena Vista Elementary School Safe Routes to School Project to the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic in 2005 to help improve several intersection crossings around the school surrounding the school. The project emphasized improving the crossings adjacent to the school along 25th Street and to slow down traffic on Utah Street between 24th and 25th Streets.

Project Details

Caltrans awarded the Buena Vista Elementary School Safe Routes to School Project to the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic in 2005 to help improve several intersection crossings around the school surrounding the school. The project emphasized improving the crossings adjacent to the school along 25th Street and to slow down traffic on Utah Street between 24th and 25th Streets. Original project plans were scaled back due to neighborhood concerns about the project scope and lack of neighborhood outreach. In the end, some improvements were constructed and they include:
