As part of Muni Forward, SFMTA has implemented a new Muni-only left turn lane from Lincoln Way to Cross Over Drive, including a new bus stop on Cross Over Drive at Lincoln Way. Effective October 1, 2014, the new left turn Muni-only lane will allow the inbound 29-Sunset bus to have direct access to northbound Cross Over Drive and eliminate the need to travel on 20th Avenue and Irving Street. This new route alignment is expected to reduce transit travel time by two to five minutes, depending on time of day, and should help improve the reliability for the over 18,000 daily 29-Sunset riders.
The 19th Avenue and Lincoln Way bus stop on the southeast corner in front of the Shell Gas Station will be discontinued effective October 1st, and the 28, 28L, 29 & 91 customers will need to cross the street and use the new bus stop on Cross Over Drive at Lincoln Way. The construction of the new bus shelter is expected to be complete by October 14, 2014.
This project includes:
- Construction of a new red transit only left hand turn lane and left turn signal to create a more seamless route for the 29 Sunset on Lincoln Way to Cross Over Drive.
- Construction of a bus shelter on Cross Over Drive at Lincoln Way in the Golden Gate Park for the 28 19th Ave, 28L 19th Ave Limited, 29 Sunset, and 91 Owl.
The following Muni lines and routes will be affected:
- 29 Sunset
- 28 19th Avenue
- 28L 19th Avenue Limited
