Legislative Meetings

There are several legislative steps for bicycle facility implementation. A generalized series of meetings follows this approximate order: DPT Public Hearing, followed by the Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting; the Municipal Transportation Agency Board Meeting, City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee Meeting, and the Full Board of Supervisors.

The Bicycle Program has drafted a more detailed explanation of how a bicycle project works its way through the legislative process. If you would like to know more, please view our handy PDF, Steps to Bicycle Implementation.

A description and links to public meetings are below:

DPT Public Hearing

There are two meetings per month on alternate Fridays. Separate meetings address general concerns and color curb requests.

Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting

The Bicycle Advisory Committee ( BAC) is appointed by and reports to the Board of Supervisors. The BAC generally meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. The MTA, along with several other City departments and agencies, regularly present materials and information to the BAC at their scheduled meetings. Please follow this link to the BAC meeting schedule.

The SFMTA governs the Municipal Transportation Agency, including the San Francisco Municipal Railway and the Department of Parking and Traffic. The SFMTA Board of Directors also serves as members of the San Francisco Parking Authority. The SFMTA Board of Directors holds regular meetings on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 2:00 p.m.  They meet in City Hall, Room 400

BOS Land Use Committee

Before an item can be heard by the Board of Supervisors Land Use Committee (formerly CONS, the City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee), environmental clearance must be obtained from the San Francisco Planning Department

Full Board of Supervisors

Public testimony is generally not permitted on a transportation item at a Full Board of Supervisors meeting since an opportunity is given for the public to speak at the Land Use Committee.

San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) Board

The SFCTA Board and its Citizen Advisory Committee also hold public meetings regarding several transportation funding sources and Congestion Management Programs. Please follow this link for information about the SFCTA: SFCTA website

Neighborhood or Community Group Meetings:
