Share this:

Happy Spring!

Construction to complete the Beach Street Quick-Build Project is starting soon!

Our team has been working closely with project partners to finalize coordination and prepare for construction following the project approval in December 2024.

Over the past year, we’ve already completed:

  • Pedestrian safety treatments on Beach Street between Jones Street and The Embarcadero
  • New curb ramps on Beach Street between Van Ness Avenue and Hyde Street

What’s Happening Next

Construction will begin June 1, 2026 for the rest of the project, including the two-way separated bikeway, pedestrian safety treatments, and parking adjustments.

What to Expect

  • Construction is expected to last approximately 4 weeks
  • You may see temporary tow-away signs and construction crews on the street assessing the area as part of preparation work in late May
  • The 19 Polk bus stop on Beach Street in front of Aquatic Park will be temporarily relocated to the southeast corner of Beach and Larkin during construction. Please follow posted signs to the temporary stop location. We will do our best to minimize bus service disruptions.
  • Beach Street will remain open and accessible to vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians during construction

What’s Coming

  • Pedestrian Safety Improvements, including upgraded crosswalks, advance limit lines, daylighting, a painted safety zone, and a new stop sign
  • Two-Way Separated Bikeway on the north side of Beach Street between Van Ness and Columbus
  • Parking and loading adjustments, including new loading zones
  • A realigned 19 Polk bus stop in front of Aquatic Park, aligned with the bus shelter
