プロジェクトの紹介 (Project Introduction)

Sansome Street with a view of the Transamerica building

Merchants on Sansome Street have asked for improved access to businesses. In response, the SFMTA is proposing changes to parking and loading rules. This would affect the three blocks on Sansome between Broadway and Washington streets. We also propose to open the southbound lane to all traffic throughout the day. These changes aim to improve access to parking near Jackson Square. They also would make travel through the area easier.

What's Changing

Sansome between Broadway & Pacific Ave

We are proposing the following changes on Sansome Street between Broadway and Washington streets:

  • Open the southbound lane to all traffic throughout the day
  • Update parking and loading regulations to improve access to businesses
  • Maintain access for transit, taxis and commercial vehicles

Today, private vehicles cannot travel southbound on Sansome Street during daytime hours. Previously, Sansome Street was northbound only between Broadway and Washington. In 2016, a peak hour transit lane was added to this three-block section of Sansome. The transit lane is restricted to transit, taxis and commercial vehicles from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. every day.

The proposed change would allow all traffic to use this section all day. This proposal would make it easier for motorists to travel through the area. It would also improve parking and access to businesses near Jackson Square.

The SFMTA is not proposing changes on Sansome Street south of Washington Street. During daytime hours, private vehicles are required to turn right southbound at Washington Street. These conditions would not be changed.
