Clarendon Safety Improvements Passed by SFMTA Board!

Last week, the SFMTA Board of Directors unanimously voted yes to make Clarendon Avenue safer. The Clarendon Quick-Build Project will make Clarendon Avenue safer for people walking, biking, rolling and driving by:

  • Making it easier for people driving to see people walking through upgraded crosswalks and concrete islands near crosswalks
  • Creating more space for drivers making turns
  • Reconfiguring travel lanes for safer speeds by having one lane in each direction
  • Improving passenger loading at Clarendon Alternative Elementary School by creating separation between the travel lane and where students are dropped off and picked up

We aim to begin this work in Summer 2026, after Public Works finishes paving Clarendon as part of a separate project. We’ll be in touch as construction on the Clarendon Quick-Build gets closer so you know what to expect.

If you’d like to see the Board’s discussion on this project, you can watch the meeting here, starting at 3:44:00.
