From September 2024 to March 2025, the Controller's Office facilitated a working group that included the Mayor’s Office, Board of Supervisors, Controller, SFMTA leadership, community partners, and members of the public to gather public input, identify solutions, and provide recommendations to address the agency's near-term and medium-term funding gap.
During this time, the Muni Funding Working Group members reviewed policy options on efficiency improvements, new funding sources, service cuts, and service enhancements. The SFMTA then bundled the individual options into six packages, which the Working Group reviewed and prioritized in the last workshop.
