Muni Operator Juliann Robinson is one of several women in our special Mother’s Day podcast.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, and we are honoring moms! So much of our work supports San Francisco mothers and their families. Plus, a lot of that work is done by moms.
We’re talking about all kinds of mothers and families -- people who have given birth, adopted, fostered or are taking care of relatives. This is a time to celebrate everyone!
A podcast full of motherly love
We’ve put together a special Mother’s Day episode of our Taken with Transportation podcast. “Moms Who Keep Us Moving” showcases seven women with the agency.
One of those women is Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum. “We have a lot of incredible SFMTA employees that are raising families,” she says in the episode. “Some on their own, some with a village.”
Kirschbaum has two kids, both of whom ride Muni. “My son … calls me ‘the chief of the buses,’ which is really sweet.”
“Moms Who Keep Us Moving” also features Muni Operator Shawnta Bolanos. Bolanos has nine children and knows how important her work on the 22 Fillmore, 14 Mission, 30 Stockton and other bus routes is to moms. “It makes it easier for people to get their children to and from school or daycare,” she explains. “Even when we think we’re not contributing to our passengers’ lives, we really are a part of their lives.”

Parking Control Officers Lachanee Ricard and Kynattah Hill are two of the many dedicated moms we are lucky to have at the SFMTA.
And what does Mother’s Day mean to Parking Control Officer Kynattah Hill? “It’s a day to give thanks for your work,” Hill says. “And appreciate other mothers who you see are working hard and taking care of their children and doing the best that they can.”
SFMTA Deputy Chief of Staff Kamini Lall, Multimodal Planning Manager Jean Long, Parking Control Officer Lachanee Ricard and Operator Juliann Robinson also appear in “Moms Who Keep Us Moving.” You can find it and all our Taken with Transportation episodes on our podcast webpage (SFMTA.com/Podcast), our YouTube channel, Apple, Spotify or wherever you listen.

Select items are 15% off through Sunday (May 11). You’ll find these exclusive deals on the Mother’s Day Sale page of the Muni Store website.

The Muni store has discounted a selection of gifts for Mother’s Day.
A family affair: How our programs support moms
Celebrating moms doesn’t begin and end on Mother’s Day. San Francisco moms and dads, for that matter, can count on us to help them move around the city all year. Families benefit from our programs, including:
- Free Muni for Youth. Parents can rest assured that their children have access to our fast, safe, reliable public transit system free of charge. Young people can get around and potentially become lifelong Muni riders.
- San Francisco Safe Routes to School. This program helps families choose the best way to get their kids to and from class, whether that’s by car, walking, biking or public transit.
- Paratransit and Mobility Management. Older adults and people with disabilities can get where they need to go thanks to services that range from shared shuttles to discounted taxi trips to door-to-door van rides. All these options support moms or their kids who might need extra help.
Those are just a few examples of how our work makes a difference. A safe, connected and reliable transportation network is a gift that we all share on Mother’s Day and every day.
