Upcoming Public Hearing - October 3, 2025
New traffic signals and associated traffic changes proposed as part of the Lincoln Way New Traffic Signals project will be heard at the October 3, 2025 engineering public hearing.
The Lincoln Way New Traffic Signals project will construct new traffic signals at two intersections on Lincoln Way. The new traffic signals constructed by the project will include pedestrian countdown signals (PCS), accessible pedestrian signals (APS), and emergency vehicle preemption (EVP), as well as traffic signal controllers, conduits, wiring, and poles. New handicap accessible curb ramps will be constructed where existing ramps are missing or deficient.
45th Avenue and Lincoln Way
New signals at this intersection will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians accessing the 45th & Lincoln Blue Boat Playground located within Golden Gate Park near the intersection. When new signals are installed, the east crosswalk crossing Lincoln Way, which terminates into a retaining wall, will be closed while the west crosswalk will be signalized.
La Playa, Lincoln Way, and Martin Luther King Jr Drive
New signals at this intersection will enhance bicycle and pedestrian connectivity between the new Sunset Dunes Park and Golden Gate Park where Martin Luther King Jr Drive is restricted to bicycles and pedestrian traffic only.
After construction of new traffic signals, existing stop signs facing Lincoln Way traffic at 46th Avenue would be removed leaving no remaining stop signs for Lincoln Way traffic. The new traffic signals and stop sign removal aims to reduce travel time for drivers travelling between the Richmond and Sunset districts using the Great Highway between Fulton Street and Lincoln Way.
The project was made possible in part by Proposition L Sales Tax dollars provided by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, and a Housing Incentive Pool (HIP) grant.
