Muni buses and trains are great places to catch up on your reading.
Hop on Muni and dive into a good book! We’re working with the San Francisco Public Library to turn travel time into reading time with Read & Ride.
September is both Transit Month and Library Card Sign-Up Month. So, you are encouraged to enjoy a good book while riding Muni in September.

Your ride. Your book. Your adventure.
Read your way around the city and make the most of your transit trip. You can complete the Read & Ride challenge in three easy steps.
- Sign up. Join the challenge through the San Francisco Public Library’s Beanstack platform.
- Read as you ride. Read a book or listen to an audiobook while on Muni. All ages and reading levels are welcome!
- Log 10 hours. Track your reading time in Beanstack. Once you reach 10 hours, you’ll earn a limited-edition Read & Ride bookmark. The bookmark is available while supplies last. You can pick up yours at any San Francisco Public Library branch.

A Fleet History of the San Francisco Municipal Railway and Muni Is My Ride are two of the books you’ll find on the Transit Month Reading List.
Need a book?
Your next great read might be waiting for you on the Transit Month Reading List. The list features some of our favorite books, and we think they’re worth bringing along for the ride.
Of course, there are plenty of books at the San Francisco Public Library. Browse the Library’s collections at your neighborhood branch. You also can find eBooks and audiobooks through SFPL’s digital resources.
Read. Ride. Repeat.
Whether you’re commuting to work, going to school, meeting friends or heading to your favorite restaurant, Muni can be more than a way to get there. It can be a chance to open a book and immerse yourself in a story.
