A chart series showing the sources of greenhouse gas emissions in San Francisco in 2020. 

The first chart shows citywide emissions:

  • 44% are from the transportation sector
  • 44% from buildings
  • 6% from landfilled organics
  • 4% from the municipal sector
  • 2% from agriculture
  • Less than 1% from wastewater

The second chart shows emissions from the transportation sector:

  • 68% are from cars and trucks
  • 23% from ships and boats (not counting ferries)
  • 8% from off-road vehicles
  • Less than 1% from public transit

The third chart shows emissions from public transit:

  • 64% are from Caltrain
  • 34% from ferries
  • 2% from Muni
  • Less than 1% from other sources
