The holiday season is here, and so are the Merry Days of Muni.
The Merry Days of Muni are underway, and we’re celebrating on the Taken with Transportation podcast! In our new episode, “Holiday Traditions Wrapped in Gratitude,” agency staff discuss some of their favorite things to do around the holidays. And they talk about what they’re grateful for.
The season in San Francisco and on Muni
From volunteering to shopping to meals with family, our staffers embrace the joy and spirit of the season. “San Francisco [at] the holidays means … people getting together, sharing love,” says Operator Gary Merritt in episode. “The city is my home, and I’m proud to be an ambassador.”
Merritt is a San Francisco native, as is our Chief Spokesperson Erica Kato. So, Muni has long been part of Kato’s traditions at this time of year.
“I just think Muni is so fun around the holidays,” she says. “The only time I really take the cable car these days is during the holidays because I really like that fresh winter air on your skin. You see the lights all up and down Powell Street. It’s just beautiful.”
Operator Gary Merritt and Presidio Division Superintendent Aleta Williams appear in our latest podcast episode, “Holiday Traditions Wrapped in Gratitude.”
Feeling grateful during the holidays and throughout the year
With Thanksgiving around the corner, we also are thinking about gratitude. And you’ll find plenty of that among our staff.
“I’m always grateful for kindness,” says Lawrence Festin. He’s the equity engagement coordinator in our Office of Racial Equity and Belonging. “There is power in being kind.”
Aleta Williams manages our Presidio Division bus yard. She is grateful for family, her work and good health. “There’s not a day that I don’t wake up in just gratitude,” Williams says.
