SFMTA and UNIQLO Debut Muni-themed Collection for New Market Street Flagship
Muni-themed collection debuts at UNIQLO on Market Street, featuring vintage, archival imagery and exclusive new designs
The Muni collection will be available exclusively through UNIQLO’s UTme! custom print service, alongside three-day opening weekend and street festival
San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) today announced a new creative partnership with UNIQLO to bring a Muni-inspired collection featuring customizable T-shirts and tote bag designs to the global retailer’s new flagship store at 801 Market Street. This is the second creative partnership the SFMTA and UNIQLO have partnered on since 2025, with custom cable car embroidery offered at the Santa Clara Valley Fair location.
Muni’s collection features exclusive designs inspired by Muni’s iconic cable car, and vintage and archival imagery produced by the SFMTA’s Creative Services Team, led by Leon Yu. The Muni designs tell a story about the city and transit system beloved by transit riders, visitors and San Franciscans alike.
UTme! designs on T-shirts and tote bags are UNIQLO’s in-store print and on-demand service, which gives customers and Muni fans the option to personalize an item to take home the same day. More information about Muni’s collection and the new San Francisco location may be found on this page.
“This collection is a love letter to San Francisco,” said Julie Kirschbaum, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “A vibrant downtown depends on people being able to get there, and Muni carries customers to every corner of this city including Market Street. We’re thrilled to partner with Uniqlo to offer a collection that reflects the transit system and city that our riders love.”
“San Francisco has always been a place that inspires us—full of creativity, new ideas, and people who care deeply about their city,” said Fuminori Adachi, Uniqlo United States CEO. “Uniqlo is investing in downtown because we believe in its future and want to be part of the energy returning to the neighborhood. The city has been a thoughtful and supportive partner throughout the process, and we’re excited to bring a welcoming store experience to the people who live, work, and visit here.”
Muni’s history dates back to 1912 with the debut of its first line, the A Geary Streetcar. Muni was the first publicly owned transit system in a major US city. In March 2000, Muni became a division of the SFMTA, consolidating San Francisco’s transit and street systems into one network that comprises multiple modes of transportation in the city. Today, Muni remains the oldest publicly owned and operated major transit system in the nation and the Bay Area’s largest transit operator.
For Muni, this collaboration is more than a collection. Each piece of artwork was carefully designed and selected to reflect a piece of Muni’s history, including the iconic Muni “worm” logo designed by Walter Landor in 1975, vintage wayfinding signs and maps, to brand new artwork synonymous with unique to San Francisco elements. The Muni x UNIQLO collection celebrates the people and places Muni brings together and gives riders a new, fun way to show their connection to the transit system that carries them every day.
“I feel so fortunate to work alongside such a talented group of designers and illustrators. We’re incredibly lucky to be brand stewards for one of the City’s most beloved brands: Muni,” said Leon Yu, SFMTA Creative Services Supervisor. “This collaboration with UNIQLO is yet another exciting opportunity for our team to connect with residents and visitors and to help tell the story of San Francisco through its transit system and design.”
"Muni is so much more than how people get around San Francisco, it’s an integral part of our city’s history, and this collection puts that story on display,” said Parisa Safarzadeh, SFMTA Director of Communications and Brand Marketing. “We are proud of our designers who brought new life to iconic imagery for everyday pieces people can wear and carry with pride and purpose.”
UNIQLO’s Market Street flagship location opens today at 10:00 a.m. at 801 Market Street, the former Old Navy site. Prior to doors opening to customers, City leaders will join UNIQLO’s U.S. CEO Fuminori Adachi at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the grand opening with a ribbon cutting, followed by a free three-day weekend street festival featuring more than 30 Bay Area artists, performers and neighborhood businesses.
