Dual Use Zones

Dual use zones provide two different types of loading in the same curb space at different times of day and are designed to meet loading needs that change throughout the day while taking less curb space offline for loading. They typically have one regulation that runs in the morning and/or afternoon, and another regulation that runs in the evening. 

Dual use zones are typically located at or near a business or destination that attract a high volume of users and have diverse loading needs throughout the day. A dual use zone may also be shared by multiple neighboring buildings and serve one building in the morning and another in the evening. One common example of this is multiple restaurants and small businesses that are next to each other which get commercial deliveries in the morning and afternoon, and then in the evening when restaurants are open the zone will be used to drop off and pick up passengers or goods.

Dual use zones are marked with signage and white paint on the curb and will be sited by the Curb Access team for maximum utility and visibility. In some cases, dual use zones may not be located right at the applicant's front door. 

Vehicles are subject to whatever regulation is operating at a given time in a dual use zone. Always check regulations on the adjacent sign. Vehicles that violate posted regulations are subject to citation and/or towing.

Fees

A non-refundable application fee is required for dual use zones. The installation fee is due only if and when the application has been approved and should not be combined with the application fee. If approved, dual use zones are required to be renewed, with a renewal fee, every two years.  

Government agencies providing public services, and non-profits that provide free services exclusively to seniors and people with disabilities are the only entities exempt from fees.
