The 2023 Muni Rider Safety Survey closed on March 31, 2023.
Everyone should feel safe on Muni. That is why, to help make Muni safer, we launched the SFMTA's first dedicated Muni Rider Safety Survey in 2023 as part of the Safety Equity Initiative. This survey closed March 31, 2023.
The goal of the survey was to
- Better understand riders' experiences and perceptions of personal safety and harassment on Muni
- Begin regularly collecting Muni rider safety data to identify and track trends over time and gauge the impact of our efforts to improve safety
- Develop potential safety recommendations, tools and policies
We partnered with the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies on this effort, and the results helped us formulate the Safety Equity Action Plan.
Ongoing survey information helps the SFMTA understand Muni customers’ specific safety needs and challenges and helps us identify where, when and how harassment shows up in the Muni system.
We will work to prevent harassment throughout the Muni system and make Muni safer for all.
