Buildings and a street with cars and a bus on it

San Francisco is a magical place all year, including and especially during summertime. (Photo credit: Unsplash)

There’s nothing like summer in San Francisco. You may need a jacket thanks to the fog and cool conditions, but summer still heats up in the city, despite any weather forecast.

There is so much to do, especially this year. And thanks to Muni and our entire transportation system, getting to summer events is easy. You can hop on a bus, train or streetcar and enjoy the season. If you drive, walk or bike, you can count on our parking control officers to keep traffic moving and help you navigate busy streets.

Here are just a few examples of what’s happening and how you can get there.

A downtown corridor filled with joy

Market Street comes alive this summer with several parades in the city’s downtown area.

The San Francisco Juneteenth Parade on June 20 is a celebration to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The SF Pride Parade on June 28 is the culmination of Pride Month and one of the oldest Pride parades in the country. And the Pistahan Parade on Aug. 8 honors the Filipino American community and its deep roots in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood.

The SFMTA will have contingents marching in the Juneteenth Parade and Pride Parade. Please wave if you see us there!

(Note that above-ground Muni service along or across the parade routes will be rerouted.)

The N Judah has been running to Oracle Park since the park opened more than 25 years ago.

Taking you out to a ball game

The San Francisco Giants and Golden State Valkyries seasons are in full swing, and we’ve got your ride to Oracle Park and Chase Center. You can get to both on Muni trains and buses. And when you go to any event at Chase Center, your ticket is your Muni fare. In fact, you can ride Muni, except the cable cars, all day and use that Chase Center ticket as your proof of payment.

How to get to Chase Center: T Third, 22 Fillmore

In addition to baseball and basketball, the FIFA World Cup 26™ has arrived in the Bay Area. We are offering extra Muni shuttle bus service between Union Square and Caltrain when there are evening matches in Santa Clara. And taking Muni is a great way to get to watch parties throughout the city. You can find more information on transportation resources and related events such as the Muni Goal Rush at our FIFA World Cup 26™ webpage (SFMTA.com/WorldCup).

Giving the city some love

Show San Francisco a little extra love this summer! July 11 is One City Day, a citywide day of service. There are dozens of volunteer projects to choose from, including neighborhood cleanups, mural painting, gardening and more. You can find details and sign up to volunteer at the project description and sign-up webpage

How to get there: Use our Trip Planner to figure out the best route to your project on Muni.

Musicians on a stage with people sitting and watching

An afternoon performance in Golden Gate Park is a treat for city residents and visitors alike.

Dance to the Music

You can enjoy free music throughout the city all summer. The Fillmore Jazz Festival turns Fillmore Street into a welcoming outdoor jazz club July 4-5. The Stern Grove Festival has been bringing live music to the city for just under 90 years. And there are concerts at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell several days a week. None of these events will cost you a dime.

How to get to the Fillmore Jazz Festival: 22 Fillmore, 24 Divisadero, 1 California, 2 Sutter, 38 Geary
(Note: Reroutes for the 22 and 24 buses will be in effect.)

Going the extra mile during events

Sometimes extra Muni service is necessary. So, we add service for events such as large concerts and baseball or basketball games. We also manage street closures for parades, festivals and block parties, and we may reroute Muni service to accommodate them.

And of course, our parking control officers are in the streets directing traffic so everyone can get around safely.

You can learn more about the work we do to support events in the Summer in the City by the Bay episode of our Taken with Transportation podcast. You’ll find it on our podcast webpage (SFMTA.com/Podcast).

San Francisco is a world class city with so much to offer. Embrace it all and let Muni get you there.
