You'll start to see Together We Go campaign artwork on Muni buses, trains and shelters across the city.
Today, we launched Together We Go, a national marketing campaign to help transit agencies across the country build trust and grow ridership post-pandemic. This multi-channel campaign is part of our work to develop a National Transit Adaptation Strategy.
The SFMTA is excited to launch this campaign in partnership with CapMetro Austin and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). You can see the Together We Go ads on buses, trains and transit shelters in San Francisco, Austin and Chicago beginning this week.
The Together We Go campaign is part of a four-phase project funded by a national, competitive grant we were awarded from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). We are partnering on this project with fellow transit agencies and:
- Institute for the Future (IFTF)
- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
- Transit (makers of the Transit app)
- Clear Channel Outdoor
- Intersection
- MIG
- Civic Edge Consulting
- IDEO
Our goal: provide data-based tools and marketing materials any U.S. transit agency can use to increase ridership and revenue.
Learn how Together We Go builds support for public transit – and how you can join us to help agencies across the country come back from the pandemic.

An example of how Together We Go artwork will look inside Muni buses.
As Muni continues to see strong ridership recovery, we are proud to lead on a project this critical to public transit. In 2024, we reached new heights with a total of 158 million passenger trips – an increase of 13.5 million trips compared to 2023.
Celebrating the best of transit: a chance to connect
Together We Go aims to shift attitudes around public transit. The campaign showcases how buses and trains do much more than get you to a destination.
The artwork highlights how transit vehicles are spaces that buzz with possibility. At any moment, you could form a meaningful connection with others sharing your ride.
Text on the physical and digital ads brings the point home: “Public transit is community – connecting us to people and places.”
If you don’t catch these ads on bus cards and shelters, you’re likely to see them online.
And the best part is – you have a chance to share your input and shape the success of this campaign.
Your feedback will help shape the campaign’s next phase
Together We Go ads feature a QR code you can scan to complete a survey. In it, you can share your reaction to the campaign – plus answer a few questions about your use of public transit.
You can also find the form here on our Together We Go campaign survey webpage.
Your feedback is essential to help shape the final phase of the campaign. With your input, we will develop a marketing toolkit that transit agencies across the country can use to better support the needs of their riders.

Dedicated transit lanes and other Muni Forward upgrades are helping us grow ridership post-pandemic.
What’s next
Now that the campaign has launched, we will start monitoring its performance over the coming months. We’ll also compile and review the campaign surveys to understand which elements of the campaign resonate with riders. From there, we will produce a comprehensive report on the marketing campaign that the FTA will publish.
To wrap up the project, our partners at MIT will use a data model they developed to assess the impact the Together We Go campaign has upon ridership. Other transit agencies will be able to use this model to measure the impact of steps they take to boost ridership. They can also use the results to inform projections around ridership.
For more information on the grant and next steps of the campaign, visit the National Transit Adaptation Strategy webpage.
We hope you’ll join us to help transit systems across the country make a strong recovery.
