If you travel on Van Ness Avenue, prepare for a traffic lane shift taking place November 19-20.  The Van Ness Improvement Project will continue shifting lanes on Van Ness Avenue so that work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system can continue in the middle of the street. Please note the change in date from last week's Forecast.

  • On the evening of November 19, northbound traffic will be shifted between Filbert and Sacramento streets. On the evening of November 20, southbound traffic will be shifted between these streets.

Work will be performed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Once the switch has been completed, there will be two anes available in each direction for motorists at all times.

 

Those traveling on the corridor are advised to stay alert and allow more travel time during construction. Polk Street, one block east of Van Ness Avenue, is a recommended alternative for people traveling by bicycle in the area.

At times, Muni bus stops along Van Ness Avenue and its side streets need to be relocated to perform construction for the Van Ness Improvement Project. Signage directs riders to temporary stops.
 

Tentative schedule:

Per the City and County of San Francisco's Public Health Order, essential infrastructure projects, including the Van Ness Improvement Project, continue. The work underway on Van Ness Avenue is vital, replacing aging utilities essential for operation, including sewer and water. The SFMTA continues to monitor projects as the situation develops.

In the next two weeks crews are scheduled to work on traffic improvements, overhead power installation and installation of new light poles

The work listed below is scheduled for daytimes, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Planned night work is italicized. The night shift for construction is 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. During this time, neighbors are advised to anticipate construction-related noise and vibrations as crews work diligently to complete necessary night work.

  • North Point to Bay. *Disruptive noise is expected. Night work is scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
