Public Hearing

On May 22nd, the SFMTA is conducting a public hearing to consider approval of the following project proposals, which aim to improve safety in Hayes Valley for all modes (particularly for pedestrians) while helping calm traffic on Octavia Boulevard as it approaches Patricia's Green:

- Octavia Boulevard at Oak Street: establish refuge islands

- Laguna Street at Fell and Oak streets: establish "Tow Away, No Stopping Anytime" for corner sidewalk widening (curb extensions)

- (Various locations in Hayes Valley): Establish red zones (intersection daylighting)

The public hearing will take place at City Hall, Hearing Room 416 (Hearing Room 4), on Friday, May 22nd, 2015. 

Oak Street at Octavia Boulevard, Laguna Street

The pedestrian and streetscape changes are proposed as a follow-up enhancement to the recent lane reconfiguration of Oak Street between Octavia Boulevard and Laguna Street, which provided two all-day dedicated turn lanes onto southbound Octavia Boulevard. Both the Market/Octavia Community Advisory Committee (MOCAC) and the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association (HVNA) have identified the intersection and  approach of Oak Street at Octavia Boulevard a high priority investment area due to substantial safety concerns and recent/upcoming housing development.

Red Zone (Intersection Daylighting)

As part of the citywide Vision Zero initiatve to eliminate serious injuries and fatalaties caused by traffic collisions, as well as in response to past planning by the Market/Octavia Community Advisory Committee (MOCAC), the SFMTA has evaluated and proposed new red curb zones within Market/Octavia Plan area (Hayes Valley). These low-cost changes are targeted for key locations where improved visibility of side street and/or pedestrian traffic will improve safety for all modes.
