Livable Streets

Livable Streets leads projects focused on creating safe and inviting streets and sidewalks for all who walk and use a bicycle. This includes enhancements to the bicycle and pedestrian environment, deploying nearly 190 school crossing guards, and traffic calming San Francisco streets. Livable Streets’ vision is that San Francisco will lead North America in providing attractive, safe streets and sidewalks, and that walking and biking will be the most attractive options for most non-transit travel.

Livable Streets is one of the key groups overseeing the development and delivery of projects and programs supporting the City’s Vision Zero goal of ending traffic fatalities. Livable Streets staff lead many of the projects that are transforming San Francisco’s streets to reduce speeding and improve safety, and they also coordinate among other City Departments such as Public Health, Police, Public Works and Planning to advance the Vision Zero agenda.
