Effective Date
The "Geary Bus Rapid Transit Project" was approved in 2017 and is being constructed in two separate projects. The first phase between Market and Stanyan streets was called the Geary Rapid Project and was completed in 2021, and the second phase in the Richmond District between Stanyan Street and 34th Avenue is called the Geary Boulevard Improvement Project and was approved in August 2023.
The Geary Boulevard Improvement Project itself is comprised of three separate but coordinated construction packages:
- SFMTA’s “Quick-Build” Implementation: City crews completed this phase, which included transit lanes, bus stop changes, left-turn restrictions and safety treatments, in Fall 2023 using paint and signs.
- SFPUC's WW-743 Geary Boulevard Sewer and Water Improvements Phase 2: Awarded to Cratus Inc on 6/25/2024 (Item #11).
- SFPW's 2289I/10000009299 Geary Boulevard Improvement Project Surface Upgrades: Advertised for bids on 4/27/2026 with bids currently due by 5/27/2026.
