L Taraval Improvement Forecast and Project Segment B Update for July 3 - 15, 2023

In the coming weeks, curb ramp work continues with demolition and grading areas in preparation for construction of the new boarding ramps and to upgrade existing boarding ramps. Underground conduit work is being performed to power the new and existing streetlights and OCS poles. Track work continues with excavation and removal of existing rails. Water line and sewer line work continues adding conduits and connections. Construction teams will be excavating and jackhammering pavement, which may cause vibrations. Materials are also being temporarily staged nearby. Dust control and housekeeping measures are in place at active construction and staging locations.

The inbound bus stop at Taraval and 15th has been relocated across the intersection until fall 2024.

General construction hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Construction schedules are subject to change. “No Parking” signs will be posted in construction and staging areas, and intersections may be closed to through traffic on Taraval Street. In observance of Independence Day, there will be no construction on Tuesday, July 4.

The tracks along Taraval Street are being prepared for the initial removal and installation of new rails. Rail work was temporarily paused upon discovery of a shallow PG&E line. The construction team inspected the area and lowered multiple gas lines. Construction resumed June 28.

Please note the following impacts to travel:

  • By car: Taraval Street will be open to through traffic traveling east- and westbound, however vehicles approaching from 29th, 30th, and 31st avenues will only be able to access Taraval Street making right turns. At times, the road within a block may be temporarily closed one block at a time to allow large machinery to perform compaction work to support rail installation.
  • By bus: The L Bus will be rerouted around the construction area. No bus stop relocations are planned at this time.
  • On foot: Pedestrians will be able to cross Taraval Street in the construction area at 30th Avenue via a pedestrian access during non-construction hours and weekends.

We have completed replacing the sewer liner along Taraval Street between 17th and 22nd avenues. Thank you for your patience as we worked to complete these critical upgrades.

On July 6 we plan to pull the initial rails from the Wawona staging location between 21st and 23rd avenues for installation on Taraval Street between 28th and 31st avenues. We will pull one rail at a time. This process will require:

  • Closing Wawona Street
  • No parking on Wawona
  • 21st Avenue and Wawona Street south east side parking removal
  • 21st Avenue and Wawona Street park entrance delayed access during rail pulls
  • 21st and Wawona traffic stop during rail pulls

Multiple agencies are performing infrastructure work in the area. This includes work by Public Works on 19th Avenue, Public Utilities Commission at Vicente and Wawona streets and PG&E along Taraval Street.
