SFMTA Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum joined Mayor Daniel Lurie and others to debut our Psychedelibus.
Special summer concerts are coming to Golden Gate Park, and we’re not just showing up with more service. We’re making your rides groovy.
We created custom psychedelic designs and wrapped them around one Muni train and two Muni buses that run along Golden Gate Park. When you hop on our Trippy Train and Pschedelibuses, you go back in time to the early days of the Grateful Dead.
The iconic band got its start in the Haight exactly 60 years ago. To celebrate this exciting milestone, Dead & Company is kicking off the summer concert lineup with three performances (Aug. 1 to 3) at Golden Gate Park. Next up in the series: Outside Lands and a concert featuring Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon.
Learn all the ways to join us in style for these events – whether you’re taking groovy rides or sporting a tie-dye tee with plenty of Muni pride. And don’t miss the special activities we’re running.

Ride the N Judah? Starting today, you might just spot our Trippy Train!
Helping you get to every concert at the park
Who’s playing and when
Here's the exciting lineup of events coming to Golden Gate Park’s Polo Fields:
- Dead & Company – Friday, Aug. 1 to Sunday, Aug. 3
- Outside Lands -- Friday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 10
- Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon – Friday, Aug. 15
Where things get groovy
We wrapped just three Muni vehicles to keep things interesting! Starting today, you can spot them on the three routes you can take to reach Golden Gate Park concerts:
- 5 Fulton
- 7 Haight/Noreiga
- N Judah
What to expect as we increase service
To make it easy for you to get to and from Golden Gate Park, we will increase service during the three concert weekends. That includes:
- Pre-event (Outbound to the park): We will run extra N Judah trains along all of the line's normal stops. Extra 5R Fulton Rapid buses will run from downtown to Fulton & 30th Ave.
- Post-event (Inbound to downtown): We will continue to run extra N Judah trains at all normal stops. There will also be 5X Civic Center Express buses that will take you directly from Fulton & 30th back to Civic Center/UN Plaza BART.
Note: The 5 Fulton will make normal stops throughout the concert weekends.
Chat with us for Muni tips
We will have Muni ambassadors out at Embarcadero, Montgomery, Powell and Civic Center stations during concert weekends. There will also be ambassadors right outside the park at Fulton Street and 30th Ave. Ambassadors will be wearing bright vests. If you’re not sure which Muni routes you can take, feel free to ask for help!
Find all the travel info you need in one place
We want to make it easy for you to learn about Muni service, travel alerts and more. You’ll find information for each concert weekend on our Outside Lands and Golden Gate Park Concerts Transportation Information webpage (SFMTA.com/Concerts).
Showing Muni pride with a psychedelic twist

Our special Muni-themed tie-dye tee is already making people smile.
We didn't stop at the Psychedelibus! We’re also selling custom Muni-themed tie-dye tees to help you get into a 60’s groove as Dead & Company takes the stage.
You can find sizes Small through 3X-Large on our Psychedelic shirt webpage (SFMTA.com/Tiedye). Orders take at least 4 to 8 business days to ship. It’s best to buy soon so you can wear your tee during concert weekend. The good news: they bring a great vibe all year long.
You can also see the tees for yourself if you stop by Shakedown Street.
Chat with us at Shakedown Street
Our staff will be tabling at Shakedown Street, and we plan to wear these special tie-dye tees!
Shakedown Street is a fun and groovy marketplace that’s been part of the Grateful Dead concert scene for decades. There will be around 100 vendors and Grateful Dead-themed merch.
This year, Shakedown Street takes place on the JFK Promenade between Transverse and Blue Heron Lake drives. It runs 10:30am to 6 p.m. from Friday, Aug. 1 to Sunday, Aug. 3.
You can stop by our table and play Muni-themed trivia. Our team can also answer questions and help you place an order for the tie-dye tee.
Grab your friends and join our Grateful Dead-themed scavenger hunt
But wait, there’s more. You can also join our self-guided Grateful Dead-themed photo scavenger hunt to explore the band’s history across the city. The hunt starts July 30 and ends Aug. 6.
In the coming days, we’ll share clues on our Instagram for even Grateful Dead-related locations. To participate in the scavenger hunt, you’ll need to take a photo of yourself visiting at least six of the sites. You’ll also need to snap a photo of you on Muni .
Keep tabs on our Instagram for more info on the scavenger hunt and how to submit your shots.
Once we get your photos, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a free psychedelic Muni tee.
