L Taraval Improvement Project Segment B Update – June 19 – July 1, 2023

In the coming weeks, sewer liner work will be performed to repair the existing sewer. Curb ramp work continues with demolition and grading areas in preparation for construction of the new boarding ramps and to upgrade existing boarding ramps. Underground conduit work is being performed to power the new and existing streetlights and OCS poles. Work continues on water lines and sewer lines. Construction teams will be excavating and jackhammering pavement, which may cause vibrations. Materials are also being temporarily staged nearby. Dust control and housekeeping measures are in place at active construction and staging locations.

The inbound bus stop at Taraval and 15th has been relocated across the intersection until fall 2024.

General construction hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Construction schedules are subject to change. “No Parking” signs will be posted in construction and staging areas, and intersections may be closed to through traffic on Taraval Street.

The tracks along Taraval Street are being prepared for the initial removal and installation of new rails. Rail work started and had to be temporarily halted upon discovery of a shallow PG&E line. The construction team will inspect the area for further assessment to determine appropriate next steps. The barricaded area will be closed. Taraval Street will be open to through traffic, however vehicles approaching from 29th, 30th, and 31st avenues will only be able to access Taraval Street making right turns. The bus will be rerouted around the construction area. Pedestrians will be able to cross Taraval Street in the construction area at 30th Avenue via a pedestrian bridge. Access will be available during non-construction hours and weekends.

*Overnight work begins June 5 on Taraval Street between 17th and 22nd avenues to replace sewer lining. To minimize disruption to the community, the sewer rehabilitation will be done using a trenchless, cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) method. This method involves accessing the pipe through manholes and rehabilitating the existing pipes from inside using a flexible pipe liner. Night noise will be minimal, although there may be sounds of trucks backing up and fans blowing to aid the curing process overnight. Night work on any given block will only occur for one to two nights. Community members have been notified of the planned work. (Read more about sewer line replacement)

Multiple agencies are performing infrastructure work in the area. This includes work by Public Works on 19th Avenue, Public Utilities Commission at Vicente and Wawona streets and PG&E along Taraval Street.
