This Sunday, June 15, left turns will be reinstated at three locations on Valencia Street, at 17th, 21st and 23rd streets. We’re reinstating these left turns based on feedback from the public about circulation on Valencia Street.
These left turn signals will be “protected,” meaning that there will be a dedicated arrow for left-turning traffic on Valencia while oncoming vehicle, bike and pedestrian traffic is stopped. They will each have a green light, followed by east-west traffic having a green light, as before. This protects people in cars who are making left turns from Valencia Street, as well as people crossing the street.
We’ll be turning these on Sunday morning, from approximately 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. We don’t anticipate any major disruptions as we activate the new traffic signals and remove bags from signal heads, but we encourage you to pay attention as you drive, walk or bike on Valencia Street as people adjust to new traffic patterns.
Finally, you may continue to see crews out on the corridor this month. There are still a few items to wrap up, like blue zones, meter installation, and striping on side streets. This should all be finished in the next two weeks.
As always, we love to hear your thoughts. Please email us at Valencia@SFMTA.com with any comments or questions you have.
