Parking Control Officers Lloyd Glover, Willie Moore and Harold Laughlin are among the dads we profile in our new podcast episode.

A lot of things happen as spring ends and summer begins. The days get longer. The weather warms up, in most places, anyway. As we know, San Francisco has its own definition of “summer weather.”

And we celebrate dads and grads.

In honor of Father’s Day and graduation season, we are profiling some of our own dads and grads in a special episode of our Taken with Transportation podcast.

“Tip of the Cap (and Gown) to Our Dads and Grads” features eight members of our SFMTA family who either are fathers, recent graduates or both. We understand that there are all kinds of fathers and families. And we recognize the wide range of schools and training programs that people graduate from. So, we are here to celebrate everyone.

Transportation dads

Parking Control Officer Lloyd Glover is one of the fathers we showcase in “Tip of the Cap (and Gown) to Dads and Grads.” “Father’s Day is huge,” Glover says. “It’s like our graduation every year of being able to say that we did it again. We made another year out of being a father and raising our kids.”

Glover adds that his 11-year-old son Lloyd, Jr. has been able to see him at work. “He likes what I do … and he likes the interaction with the public.”

Chief of Staff and Director of External Affairs Judson True is a new dad. His daughter Cora is one year old.

“Cora’s first trip on Muni was the 44 O’ Shaughnessy” True tells us in the episode. “We got on right near Green Apple Books on Clement and went down to the DeYoung. I hope that she enjoyed that trip as much as I did.”

Recent high school graduates and SFMTA Youth Transportation Advisory Board members Chanel Marie Green and Mason Ngo appear in our special dads and grads podcast.

The next generation of transportation advisors

Two members of our Youth Transportation Advisory Board, or YTAB, are featured in “Tip of the Cap (and Gown) to Dads and Grads.”

Chanel Marie Green just graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy Cristo Rey High School. Green joined YTAB after spending a couple of years learning how to navigate public transit in the city.

“Just having youth voices, in general, and having the youth involved in something so they know how San Francisco functions and how they can use transportation is very important,” Green says.

Mason Ngo is a new Abraham Lincoln High School graduate who plans to major in urban studies and planning at San Francisco State University. When asked if he might be a future transportation planner, Ngo replies with a laugh, “May-haps. I don’t know.”
