The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is conducting a survey involving part-time delivery workers, or couriers, who work for courier network services like Postmates, Caviar, DoorDash, GrubHub and Instacart. The purpose of this survey is to understand the challenges couriers experience while performing deliveries within the City of San Francisco.

Data regarding the effects of courier network services on our transportation system is limited. We do not know how many couriers enter San Francisco on a daily basis, when most deliveries are completed, and where most deliveries are made. It is clear, however, that courier network services will continue to grow. It is also clear that in recent years, many local restaurants and businesses have adopted app-enabled delivery services to meet customer demand.

By learning about the challenges couriers experience when performing deliveries, the SFMTA will better understand the role on-demand delivery services play in San Francisco and their use of the overall transportation network. The insights gained from this survey may also help to inform the city’s future transportation planning decisions. If you are a courier, we’d like to hear from you!
