Discover Your City On 2018 Walk to Work Day

Tuesday, April 3, 2018

With fantastic bay views and great pedestrian infrastructure to help people travel on foot safely, San Francisco is one of the most walkable cities in the country. But don’t just take our word for it.

Grab your commute-friendly shoes and find out on April 5th’s Walk to Work Day!

Step into this sixth annual event, brought to you by the SFMTA and our nonprofit partner Walk San Francisco, and see what a rewarding experience hiking to the office can be. And we’re not just talking about the sightseeing rewards that come with a city walk. We’re talking free coffee and treats. Just check out the Walk to Work booths at “hub” locations, doling out prizes and provisions to city strollers. Some convenient locations include City Hall and SFMTA at Market & Van Ness Avenue. Find more details about these Walk to Work Day fueling stations at walksf.org.

The nonprofit is also sponsoring Walk to Work Day contests, to award participants for having the “Longest Walking Commute” or the “Best Shoe Bling.” See the full range of contests on the Walk SF website, and enter by posting your responses and pictures to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the event’s hashtag -- “#Walk2Work.”

Walk to Work Day

Whether you commute by Muni, BART or other wheeled ways, every trip begins and ends with walking or involves a sidewalk. That’s why the SFMTA is hard at work to make a more pedestrian friendly city through projects like Better Market Street, and through citywide policies like Vision Zero.

So we hope you’ll dip a toe into the commute-by-foot experience on April 5, even if it’s only a short distance. Encourage your co-workers to participate in Walk to Work Day, too. Explore a new work route through a different San Francisco neighborhood (remember, we’re a city known for our hills!) and join in this walkable workday soiree.
