Working to make stops safer and more accessible

Proposed upgrades

The 8 Bayshore: Visitacion Valley Stop Improvements Project proposes upgrades to seven stops in Visitacion Valley and Sunnydale. Our designs include six bus bulbs -- areas next to a bus stop where the sidewalk is wider. The “front-door” bulbs we are proposing maximize parking for local communities. You can learn the details on our project webpage.

The proposed upgrades also include a boarding island and protected bike lane at one stop on Geneva Avenue. Where possible, we would also improve stops with new lighting, shelters and signage.

How riders would benefit

The upgrades we are proposing are designed to:

  • Improve safety by reducing cross distances and increasing visibility
  • Improve accessibility by allowing buses to deploy ramps at curbs
  • Reduce transit travel time by making it faster and easier for riders to board
  • Provide a more comfortable experience with improved stops and wider sidewalks

Proposed locations for stop upgrades

These transit improvements aim to support the growing needs of Visitacion Valley and Sunnydale communities. The proposed upgrades would be located near the Sunnydale HOPE SF development site. The project is funded by an Affordable Housing & Sustainable Communities grant.

The list of stops includes:

  • Visitacion Ave & Rutland St (both directions)
  • Visitacion Ave & Schwerin St (both directions)
  • Visitacion Ave & Sawyer St (inbound to downtown only)
  • Santos St & Velasco Ave (inbound to downtown only)
  • Geneva Ave & Santos St (outbound to City College only)
