Project Overview & Key Benefits
The Clarendon Quick Build Project is designed to enhance pedestrian safety, calm vehicle turns, and improve visibility at key intersections. Proposed upgrades include:
- Road Diet: Right-sizing traffic lanes to one lane in each direction, matching the existing roadway on either end of the corridor.
- Daylighting at Crosswalks: Improving visibility by clearing sightlines near intersections.
- Concrete Islands:
- Improve compliance with daylighting and slow turning vehicles, increasing drivers’ ability to see pedestrians before they enter crosswalks.
- Olympia Drive near the firehouse: A new concrete island will replace the existing plastic flex posts and painted area. It will be designed to maintain fire truck access to the hydrant, solving the issue of regularly damaged posts while improving safety.
- Clarendon Woods Drive: A new concrete island on the eastern side of Clarendon Avenue and a continental crosswalk will improve visibility and pedestrian safety.
- Dellbrook Avenue: Two concrete islands—one on each side of Clarendon Avenue—will be added within daylighting zones to enhance visibility and calm turning vehicles
- Panorama Drive: Extension of the existing median island at Clarendon Avenue to calm turns near the school loading area
