New M Ocean View boarding islands completed, limited construction remaining

We reopened the M Ocean View stops at San Jose and Lakeview avenues on Saturday, December 20, after building longer, wider boarding islands for riders. Boarding islands are now long enough so that all riders of two-car trains can get on and off the train directly onto the island.

Getting on and off Muni safely was a common concern riders shared with us during project outreach. From 2017-2022, an average of two people per year were hit by cars while getting on or off the M Ocean View in the project area.

Public Works crews were able to complete this work ahead of schedule in order to minimize disruption and get more work done during dry weather.

We expect that there will be two days of paving work in the right lanes adjacent to the islands starting the first week of January, weather permitting. During these two days, the right lane next to the islands will be closed to traffic. We expect Muni service to be unaffected.

Once it is complete, this paving work will make it easier for residents to get into and out of their garages. Please watch for workers and signage.

We expect to implement more quick-build improvements next year. These are also part of our M Ocean View Transit & Safety Project quick-build safety upgrades.
