Paving the Way for Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit

The Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is a package of transit and pedestrian safety improvements. To implement the full benefits of the project, sidewalk and roadway reconfigurations will be necessary, including parking changes and left turn restrictions.   The parking is proposed to be removed to accommodate the BRT design elements such as center boarding islands and pedestrian bulbs. Most left turns are proposed to be removed to facilitate better traffic flow and reduce delays to transit and traffic, and also to minimize the removal of parking by eliminating left turn lanes.

On August 22, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) held a public hearing to hear residents' concerns regarding the parking and traffic changes affecting their streets.

The SFMTA Board will make the final approval at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 18, 1 p.m., City Hall, Room 400, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco.
