Dear Taxi Industry Members,

At noon on Tuesday, June 9, SFMTA will pause our work for eight minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd and reflect on his tragic murder in solidarity with those who have raised their voices and marched in protest of the systemic, institutional and interpersonal violence that so many Black Americans endure. Eight minutes and 46 seconds recalls the duration of time George Floyd struggled to breathe in his final moments when he was killed in police custody. This symbolic action is taken in tandem with the SFMTA’s efforts to address racism as a part of our day-to-day work at the agency.

Along with the SFMTA, the taxi industry has an important role to play in reflecting on and redressing exclusionary service practices, as well as to committing to providing safe, equitable and just transportation services for all. We therefore want to let you know about this important agencywide memorial and invite you to participate in whatever way feels true to you. Additionally, The mayor has made this moment of silence a citywide action.

Thank you for your dedication and service to San Francisco.
