To Taxi Industry:

The South Van Ness/Mission intersection is shutting down for 5 days, from August 4-9 as part of the Van Ness Improvement Project in order to replace the roadway

Closing the intersection for five days allows the agency to complete inconvenient and disruptive work that would otherwise require two months of work done in segments. The SFMTA appreciates the patience that the community has shown during construction, and is excited for the project to soon be complete.

With this effort, construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. San Francisco’s first Bus Rapid Transit corridor is expected to go into service on Van Ness Avenue in early 2022. The remaining work includes construction of boarding islands, bulbouts and landscaping. This closure will impact people driving, taking transit and walking in SoMa, Tenderloin, Civic Center, Hayes Valley, Duboce Triangle, Downtown and Inner Mission.

People who travel in the area are encouraged to “Scout Your Route” before the shutdown and plan their travel accordingly. The project website details the available reroutes and provides additional information for motorists.

The SFMTA is excited for work on Van Ness to be finished soon and appreciates your support and awareness on the shutdown.
