Active Communities Plan - October Bayview-Hunters Point Update

What is the Active Communities Plan?

If you’re interested in transportation, you may also be interested in the work we’re doing for the Active Communities Plan! The Active Communities Plan is the first update to the Citywide Bicycle Plan since 2009. A lot has changed in the last 13 years. People now use the bike network for all kinds of travel, including scooters, skateboards, powerchairs, and other electric mobility devices. As more people use the network, people need better and safer places to ride. Supporting safe, environmentally friendly travel is more important than ever, but many communities also have concerns about the implications of these changes. The Active Communities Plan will be a new roadmap for meeting these needs and implementing community-led visions for active transportation.

How can you get involved?

Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates and SFMTA are co-hosting a community workshop on October 30th from 5-7pm to discuss the draft active transportation network, draft programs and policies, and the community-led vision for the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. The event will be held at 2600 Arelious Walker Drive and online through Webex. Dinner will be provided. Join us in helping to shape how people will be able to bike, roll, and scoot throughout the city.

Flyer for the Bayview-Hunters Point Community Workshop. Flyer text reads: "Walk, Scoot, Bike better in Bayview-Hunters Point. Be a part of creating a plan that improves all modes of getting around our neighborhood! Calling residents of Bayview-Hunters Point to bring your expertise to the Active Communities Plan workshop on October 30. For more info, email Dalila at dalila@bvhpadvocates.org."

If you can’t make our workshop on the 30th, we’ll also be at the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association meeting on November 6th and the Southeast Community Facility Commission on November 22nd.

What’s Next?

We are gathering input from community workshops and incorporating feedback into the draft active transportation network and proposed policies and programs. We plan to bring our first draft of the citywide network to the SFMTA Board on November 21st – keep your eye out for more news soon!

In the next few months, we will be holding additional community workshops and open houses throughout the city. If you’d like us to attend your community meeting or event, contact ActiveCommunities@sfmta.com and let us know!
