Battery/Sansome Quick-Build Project Update - February 2023

Greetings from the Battery/Sansome Quick-Build Project team,

The Battery/Sansome Quick-Build Project is substantially complete! Next time you're on Battery Street, look for the Financial District's first two-way protected bikeway, connecting Market Street with the Financial District and Barbary Coast neighborhoods. You can use the bikeway to access offices, restaurants, shops, and many other destinations downtown. On Sansome Street, you'll see some new pedestrian safety improvements, including daylighting and advanced limit lines to improve visibility.

To commemorate the occasion, the SFMTA is partnering with District 3 Supervisor Aaron Peskin to host a ribbon cutting event for the Battery Street bike lane on Thursday, February 23rd at 11 AM. Please join us at Battery Bridge Plaza (on Battery Street between Bush Street and Market Street) for remarks from Supervisor Peskin, SFMTA Director Jeff Tumlin, and local stakeholders. The event will conclude with a celebratory ride along the new bikeway.

As with all quick-builds, the project will include a thorough evaluation of impacts. We will examine vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian volumes; vehicle speeds; parking behavior; and yielding behavior at loading zones. Project evaluation will begin in late spring 2023 and results will be shared upon completion.
