The Clarendon Quick-Build Project will be voted on this coming Tuesday, November 18 at the SFMTA Board meeting at City Hall, room 400. We’ve heard loud and clear that Clarendon Avenue, which is on the city’s High Injury Network, and has a school with over 500 students, needs to be safer for people walking, biking, rolling and driving.
This project will do so by:
• Creating more space for drivers to turn
• Reconfiguring the travel lanes to one lane in each direction to encourage travel at safer speeds
• Adding separation between school passenger loading and the travel lane to improve passenger loading at Clarendon Alternative Elementary School while maintaining capacity
Public Works is currently paving Clarendon Avenue as part of a separate project. If approved, our work will begin next summer 2026, after paving is completed, to maximize public resources and efficiency, while minimizing disruption.
We encourage you to attend the Board meeting next week and share your thoughts about this project. You can provide public comment during the meeting or submit written comments to MTABoard@SFMTA.com.
This plan does not include a protected bike lane. We are currently focusing on pedestrian safety improvements to stay within the scope and budget of a quick-build project. Exploring the trade-offs and coordination required for a protected bike lane on Clarendon Avenue is a potential future effort.
You can read more about the project on our project webpage. Have questions? Contact the project team at ClarendonQB@SFMTA.com.
