Project Update - October 2020

Thank you for your interest in the Embarcadero Quick-Build Projects.

Quick Build Construction Update

Ferry Terminal Quick Build

On October 7, Public Works began construction of the concrete islands to protect the two-way bikeway. Construction is expected to take approximately three weeks. General work hours will be on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NOTE: The Folsom-Mission protected bikeway will be northbound only until concrete islands are fully installed.

Pier 35 Quick Build

SFMTA crews started installing road markings and plastic posts along northbound The Embarcadero between Bay and North Point streets. This Quick Build establishes a new protected bikeway to reduce conflicts between bikes and passenger loading activities at the Pier 35 Cruise Terminal. The flexible design will also accommodate the unique loading demands for cruise calls and other large-scale events that are major components of the Pier's maritime activities.

Construction Impacts

During construction, crews will be adding new paint to the road and curbs, removing and installing metered parking, and installing pedestrian/bicycle waiting areas and protected bikeways.

Vehicle traffic may be reduced to one lane northbound on The Embarcadero between Folsom to Mission streets. Please look out for field staff and temporary signage and exercise care when using the street.

Next Steps

We will send another update when we have more detailed information about the construction dates for the railings and signals for the Ferry Terminal Quick Build.

Thank you for your patience and consideration as we work to bring these vital safety improvements to The Embarcadero corridor.
