Temporary Boarding Islands at 19th & Taraval

As part of the Twin Peaks Tunnel Improvement Project, temporary concrete boarding islands will be installed at the inbound L Taraval stop at 19th Ave (west of Taraval) and the outbound L Taraval stop at 19th Ave (east of Taraval). Work will take place on Saturday, June 16th and Saturday, June 23rd from approximately 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. each day. During construction, expect minor temporary vehicle detours on Taraval. Trains will continue to operate during construction. However, the 19th Avenue stop will be closed as boarding islands are installed. L Taraval customers should use the 15th Avenue stops or the 17th Avenue inbound stop during this time.

Temporary Boarding Islands at 19th and Taraval

These boarding islands will serve the L Taraval bus substitution during the two-month Twin Peaks construction starting on June 25 and will remain in place until the full L Taraval Rapid Project is constructed. This will result in no change to parking. Permanent boarding islands will be installed beginning in late 2019 with wheelchair accessible ramps, bus shelters and enhanced design elements.

The installation of the boarding islands will make sure that buses can move efficiently through the area, make the stops accessible for people with disabilities, and reduce impacts to traffic by keeping buses out of the curb lane.

Parking Time Limits Installed This Week on Taraval

After a community process and approval from the SFMTA Board, as a way to optimize the parking supply, new time limits are being installed for some parking spaces on Taraval Street. Parking spaces without time limits on Taraval have very little turnover and are often full most of the day, which means that fewer customers can park in these spaces to visit local merchants.

The new time limits would be in effect Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Unmetered time limits will be installed soon on the following blocks:

  • 2 hour time limit: Taraval Street between 33rd and 36th avenues
  • 4 hour time limit: Taraval Street between 44th and 47th avenues

Crews are out on the corridor this week adding time limits signs. There will be a couple days of “grace period” as folks get used to the new restrictions, but drivers should follow the time limits starting immediately. The limits came at the request of many merchants in the area and received strong support as a measure to help with parking availability.
