Those traveling on the corridor are advised to stay alert and allow more travel time during construction. Polk Street, one block east of Van Ness Avenue, is a recommended alternative for people traveling by bicycle in the area.

At times, bus stops along Van Ness Avenue and its side streets need to be relocated to perform construction for the Van Ness Improvement Project. Signage directs riders to temporary stops.

To avoid hazards, those bicycling, skateboarding or otherwise traveling illegally in the red transit lanes on Van Ness Avenue while construction is wrapping up should beware that authorized vehicles may be traveling in the transit lanes. We are now conducting testing to get service on the new Bus Rapid Transit corridor running in early 2022. To do so safely, the red lanes must be clear of any vehicles. Your safety is important to us. We look forward to welcoming you aboard to travel on the red transit lanes this coming spring.

Parking is currently not available on Van Ness Avenue due to construction. Drivers can find parking in private lots or on side streets. Please do not park on sidewalks or in live traffic lanes. This is dangerous and may result in citations.

The work listed below is scheduled for daytimes, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Planned night work is italicized. The night shift for construction is 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. During this time, neighbors are advised to anticipate construction-related noise and vibrations as crews work diligently to complete necessary night work.

The following Van Ness Improvement Project construction forecast is subject to change. For more project details, please visit the Van Ness Improvement Project webpage (SFMTA.com/VanNess). In the next two weeks, crews are scheduled to work on traffic improvements, overhead power installations, traffic signal wiring & hardware installation, light pole setting, median island furnishings, sidewalk flatwork and related work at the following locations.
