Weekend Closures to Northbound 19th Ave between Winston & Eucalyptus

The M Ocean View Improvement Project will repair vital transit infrastructure and improve safety for people who walk and use Muni on 19th Avenue. The improvements include installing vehicle safety measures at the trackway entrances, replacing the rail and upgrading traffic signals. Temporary lane shifts are now active in the area and drivers are advised that travel times may increase.

After successful completion of Phase One, track replacement between Winston and Rossmoor drives as well as pedestrian safety and performance improvements have now begun in Phase 2 of the project. To support this work, some lane shifts on 19th Avenue have already been implemented and will continue throughout the project.

The larger track replacement work coincides with the Twin Peaks Tunnel Improvements Project, during which the M train will be substituted with a bus. The Twin Peak Tunnel Improvement Project began on Monday, June 25 and will continue for approximately two months. Crews plan to take advantage of this bus substitution to work on the rails.

19th Avenue (northbound only) will be closed between Winston and Eucalyptus drives for two consecutive weekends. Closures and detours start Friday night and continue through Monday morning:

  • 10 p.m., Friday, July 13 through 5 a.m., Monday, July 16
  • 10 p.m., Friday, July 20 through 5 a.m., Monday, July 23

Transit Changes

During these weekend closures, the 28 19th Avenue, M Ocean View Bus and 91 Owl will have reroutes in the inbound (north) direction only:

Delays and detours should be expected in the area. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes including Junipero Serra Boulevard.
