Muni's First New Train Arrives in San Francisco

Tuesday, January 17, 2017

Take a tour of your new Muni train! The first of a new generation of Muni Metro trains arrived on January 13, 2017, marking a huge milestone for the fleet that will play a major role in transforming the Muni-riding experience in the years to come. These trains aren’t just sleeker, quieter and safer than our current train fleet. They’re also expected to be far more reliable, running an average of 59,000 miles without breakdowns, compared to less than 5,000 miles with our current trains. This is the first of four initial trains already in production by Siemens. These trains will replace our current fleet of 151 trains and expand it by 64 in phases over the next few years.
