Dump the Pump Day, Ride Public Transit

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

National Dump The Pump Day.

The SFMTA, partnering with the American Public Transportation Association is proud to join other transit agencies around the country in "Dump the Pump Day." National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to use public transit to get where they need to go. Instead of driving your car and sitting in traffic, hop on a Muni bus, train, cable car or street car. This is also a great time to enjoy the extra service we just added to help get you around town even faster.

Starting in June 2006 when gas prices hit $3 per gallon for the first time, this national day emphasizes that public transit is a convenient travel option that cuts down on congestion and reduces greenhouse gases. We also get you where you need to be without the worry of the daily drive.

According to the March APTA Transit Savings Report, a two-person household in America can save an average of more than $9,894 annually by downsizing to one car. Additionally, public transit is one of the cornerstones of our economy in San Francisco. In fact, public transit helps to make our community economically prosperous and competitive. Every $1 invested in our public transit generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.

So this Thursday, June 21, be sure to hop on your favorite Muni route and let us worry about your commute.
