Our agency is providing free commemorative Muni tickets to the 2026 MLK March on Monday, Jan. 19. The event is organized by the Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation (Norcal MLK Foundation).

Commemorative tickets
- Get the pass: Fill out this form to secure the digital ticket.
- How it works: You can use the ticket on any Muni route, excluding cable cars, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 19. Present your pass to Muni staff when boarding or entering a station.
March details
- When: Monday, Jan. 19, starting at 11 a.m.
- Where: Caltrain Station at 4th and King streets
- Marchers will travel across the 4th Street bridge before looping back around 3rd Street to Yerba Buena Gardens. Visit the Norcal MLK Foundation’s website to learn more about the event.
- Cost: Free
The annual event honors the historic Selma Marches led by King. The demonstrations played a crucial role in the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King also helped organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a 13-month protest of racial segregation on city buses. In November 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the practice was unconstitutional.
Taking Muni to the march
The following bus routes and train lines will take you near the march start point:
- Bus options include the 45 Union/ Stockton, 30 Stockton and 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express
- Train options include the N Judah and T Third Street

Driving to the event
Expect street closures at:
- Townsend Street between 3rd and 5th streets
- 4th Street between Brannan and King streets
These closures will start at 10:15 a.m. Streets will reopen once marchers clear the area.
