Taking Care of Business as We Build a Better Van Ness

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

The Van Ness Corridor Transit Improvement Project team is looking for business leaders and merchants to join a Business Advisory Committee aimed at improving conditions and creating an atmosphere that attracts customers to the neighborhood during construction.

Breaking ground in early 2016, this massive civic improvement project will bring San Francisco its first Bus Rapid Transit system, a globally proven solution to improve transit service and address traffic congestion on Van Ness. Throughout the estimated three-year construction process, the city will also replace hundred-year-old water and sewer lines and install safety improvements for all travelers and visitors on the corridor.

The Van Ness Business Advisory Committee, a first for a construction project with the SFMTA, will offer businesses direct access to project staff throughout each stage of the project. Members will act as the voice of the community and will provide input on how staff can best work with local businesses and bring out the character that has made this vital thoroughfare one of the city’s grand avenues.

To help businesses navigate the construction of these improvements, we are forming a Business Advisory Committee to support local merchants and celebrate the rich commercial history of the neighborhood.

The Business Advisory Committee will operate independently from the existing Community Advisory Committee and will focus on the impact the project will have on local businesses. Members will collaborate and develop strategies such as customer incentive programs and marketing campaigns to support businesses impacted by the project’s construction. The first meeting will be held in January 2016, with monthly meetings after that.

If you own or operate a business that will be directly impacted by the Van Ness Corridor Transit Improvement Project, we want to hear from you! We’re accepting applications to join the Van Ness Business Advisory Committee now through November 20. Find out more and download an application (PDF) on the project website. Applications can be completed electronically and submitted by e-mail to vannessbrt@sfmta.com. You can also contact the project team directly at 415.749.2446.
