We are always looking out for our riders. A key part of that work: providing real-time information about Muni service.
Riding Muni in San Francisco? Our teams are here to help you enjoy smooth trips across the city. That means setting you up for success in case something affects your plans – whether it’s an unexpected event or a street closure.
At the SFMTA, we know your time is valuable. That's why we've created multiple ways you can quickly find answers about service disruptions.
Here's where you can turn during trips – and before you board – to get where you need to go.
Get answers in the moment
1. Find real-time updates for your exact route and stop
Every Muni line and stop has its own webpage with customized details.
Visit our Muni Routes and Stops webpage (SFMTA.com/Routes) and select your line to find:
- Live service status - See if your route is running normally
- Scheduled reroutes - Learn about upcoming construction or events
- Alternative options - Explore suggested routes when service is affected
- Accessibility notes - Check elevator and ramp status at key stops
Visit our Find a Stop webpage (SFMTA.com/FindAStop) for the same real-time updates and enable geolocation:
- Based on a user’s location, this page returns the nearest stop pages to find applicable predictions.
- The page will also include a lookup for address, intersection and places of interest. You can also see a map interface if you choose not to use geolocation.
Pro Tip: Bookmark these pages on your phone for quick access before and during your commute.
2. Get a global view across our system
Want a complete view of all service impacts? You can check our dedicated alert pages for the latest information:
- Muni Alerts Page: See real-time updates on Muni service disruptions and reroutes.
- Travel & Transit Updates: See how events and construction projects might affect your route.
Note: Third-party apps that offer transit information can be helpful. However, we recommend cross-checking with our official sources for the most accurate information.

Riders check our real-time digital displays as they get around during Pride celebrations.
3. Check our signs and announcements
We provide multiple ways to stay informed during your trip:
- In stations: Digital message boards with clear audio announcements about delays or route changes. These include automated and live announcements. Our helpful station agents are always ready to assist.
- On vehicles: We schedule automated audio announcements about service changes. Our amazing operators will make live announcements when needed.
- At stops, platforms and boarding islands: We have real-time arrival signs with service alerts and posted notices for planned reroutes. Be on the lookout for those!
4. Contact 3-1-1 for 24/7 customer support
Another way to get immediate help? Call 3-1-1. Their customer service team is always available.
Customer service representatives can provide predictions, real-time information and multilingual support. With 3-1-1, you can get answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via telephone and TTY (via 711).
You can also use 511 Voice Response. Dial 511 and enter or say the stop ID to receive applicable predictions.

Your ride, our priority
When unexpected issues arise, our Transportation Management Center (TMC) works around the clock to adjust service and minimize delays. The TMC proactively updates our customer information officers (CIOs) and 3-1-1 staff with real-time changes. This way, you always have the latest updates for a smooth Muni journey.

TMC (Transportation Management Center) controllers coordinate service adjustments and make a series of operational decisions to ensure service runs smoothly and safely.
Earlier this year, we implemented a new Muni Alert Publisher (MAP) system. It has dramatically improved our ability to share service disruptions as quickly as possible across channels.
First, customer information officers receive information from the Transportation Management Center (TMC). Before, these staff members would have to manually craft separate alerts for each Muni platform.
Now, our new MAP system streamlines this critical task into an intuitive, five-click workflow. This allows staff to receive, verify and publish a comprehensive alert across all our channels—including email, text, our official website, X and BlueSky—in under a minute.
This time savings makes it much easier for our customer information officers to manage multiple incidents at once. The result: our riders receive vital delay information with unprecedented speed and consistency across every major communication platform.
